Supposedly this is the all new 2020 Jeep Gladiator pickup in all it’s uncamoflauged glory. Someone was quick and fast and grabbed these leaked images from the Fiat media site. There are some pretty cool tidbits and most things we already guessed.
According to the leaked document, the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will come standard with a 3.6-liter V6 engine that can be mated to an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. The optional 3.0 EcoDiesel V6 that was in the RAM 1500 and the Grand Cherokee pumping out 240HP and 420 lb-ft of torque.
The Gladiator’s lists its max tow rating at 7,600 pounds and payload at 1,600 pounds. I would venture that these numbers are with the diesel. Two four-wheel-drive systems will be available, beefy Dana 44 axles with electronic lockers front and rear should make the Gladiator very capable off-road. Arguably it will be the best off-road pickup available. There will be an electronic swaybar disconnect and 33-inch tires.
Two soft top options, a hard top available and a 5 foot bed all combine to give it some versatility.
While I love the styling and the soft top I am not over the moon for this truck. It does compar favorably for towing and cargo capacity to a Tacoma but will a premium dollar cost for the diesel make it a smart decision? With current Wrangler pricing in the low $40K range and a new Tacoma and Colorado under $40K is it too expensive to compete? Time will tell but I would like to have seen a remake of the J20 trucks with a more full size offering.
