Campfire Recipes – Hobo Pies

I love hobo pies. What is a hobo pie you ask? It’s a simple little item using the basic lower income basics. Two slices of white bread, and toppings.

I have written about pie irons before and they are among the most versatile simple meal makers a camper can have in the repertoire. So for this little bite to eat the process follows.

Ingredients:
  • 2 Slices White Bread (Use different breadĀ for different flavors.)
  • 1 Can Fruit Filling
  • 1 Stick Butter
  • Pie Irons
  • Cooking Spray
Directions:

Spray your pie iron on both sides. Butter each slice of bread and place one in the pie iron. Spoon fruit filling onto the slice of bread in the pie iron. Place the other slice of bread over the filling butter side up. Carefully close the pie iron making sure the bread doesn’t shift too far to the side.

Place pie iron on your fires hot coals. Cook for 5-10 minutes depending on your fire rotating every minute to cook evenly.

When they are done open the pie iron, place on serving dish and enjoy. B careful they will be extremely hot!
